Hospital medication and clinical supplies for admitted patients.

The RCH Hospital Pharmacy provides medication and clinical items to patients admitted to the hospital.

On discharge, patients may receive a seven-day supply of prescribed medication in accordance with medical aid requirements. Additional prescribed medication and clinical items can be obtained from Living Water’s Pharmacy.

The Clinical Store provides surgical and clinical items to admitted patients. A pharmacist is available on standby for hospital emergencies.

During catheterisation, a long thin catheter is inserted through a small incision, usually in the upper thigh, arm or neck, and guided through the blood vessels to the heart or other structures.

Heart Attack Centre

Emergency care for suspected or confirmed heart attack patients.

The Heart Attack Centre provides emergency services to patients with a suspected or confirmed heart attack.

A heart attack occurs when blood flow through a coronary artery is blocked. Rapid treatment is essential because the sooner the artery is opened, the better the chance of preserving heart muscle and improving recovery.

Common symptoms include sudden chest pain, chest pressure or tightness, shortness of breath, sweating and severe weakness. Some patients, particularly older adults and people with diabetes, may have less typical symptoms.

The service is fully digital, allowing images and reports to be made available electronically to referring doctors. Radiologists, sonographers and radiographers support reporting and patient imaging.

High-resolution oesophageal manometry and reflux assessment.

PH Study services include high-resolution oesophageal manometry and pH and impedance studies.

These tests assist with pre- and post-reflux surgery assessment, oesophageal symptoms not diagnosed by gastroscopy or barium swallow, suspected achalasia, dysphagia and impaired oesophageal motility.

They may also help confirm GERD, assess reflux severity, correlate symptoms with reflux episodes and investigate non-acid reflux, non-cardiac chest pain and refractory heartburn.
